and now we're back!
I figure that just one update is probably not enough information to stick in our collective mind that rhythm is back in town. Though, I don’t really have any idea of how many I need to write… We shall see…
I am back today to remind you that this coming Tuesday will in fact be a “1st” Tuesday of the month. And as such there is going to be people in rhythm together and you are welcome to join. If you can let me know if you are coming and if you are bringing anyone new it would be helpful to my preparation.

I am still working on my vision of making rhythm more open, accessible and what that looks like. I have taken a stance that I will not pore every waking moment into figuring out what that looks like. So, over the next couple months I am working to remember things to add/bring for an evening in rhythm. One small example of this is having the basic syllables/mantra that we use to build the rhythm written clearly in the room for all participants to see. This is not revolutionary but I think it helps those that are new to the work to feel a bit more comfortable right at the start. Hopefully now that I have stated this to you all I will remember to bring such things.
On remembering to bring such things: This is a dance/rehearsal space. There is not much in the way of comfort provided. So, bringing a cushion, blanket or yoga mat to sit/lay on is advised. Along with that a water bottle and indoor only shoes if you want to wear shoes. This is a courtesy to all the other groups that work in the space and trying to keep the floors in great condition for them as well as us.
1st & 3rd Tuesdays – Journeys – These are open to all and my intention is that they will be fully lead journeys through rhythm. We will play and though we will most likely fall apart sometimes, we intend for everyone to have a full lasting experience of rhythm.
2nd & 4th Tuesdays – Practice – I haven’t said much about this yet but these weeks we are practicing. This too is open to the public. So, you are welcome to come and learn whatever you can about leading and making this process your own. The big difference between these and the journeys is that as we practice we may stop to talk about the theory, principles, skills and purposes for extended periods. These practices are about developing the skills needed to lead and thus may not be as “fun” as a journey. It is always great to have an extra stepper and clapper in the room to help support those learning other skills. Even if you are just curious what this is like for just a week there is no obligation to coming all the time.
One thing I have done is re-write some of the “about me” page. I would be happy to have your feedback on what is there via email if you think something critical is missing or if you see a typo I didn’t catch.
I hope to see you all soon of course. If not soon, certainly later. Cheers.
