Creative Mediums

Hello Rhythm Adventurers,

Jacob Stein, TaKeTiNa Portland, Rhythm Meditation
With pride, this week’s photo is of the pumpkin I carved this year.

One week ago I was in my front room carving a pumpkin. Seasonal fun that I have come to realize is a time I look forward to.  Last year I carved my first pumpkin in over 20 years. I loved it. I don’t think of myself as an artist outside of music but I guess that story is changing. The orange glow has given me a new medium for creativity. Now, pumpkins and TaKeTiNa are my mediums.

New realizations of why I love TaKeTiNa still happen. In some way, it is new to me that TaKeTiNa is a creative outlet for me and participants. This rhythm process allows us to tap into the musical medium, as a group, without training, and create a unique experience that can move us, sooth us, invigorate and inspire. I often hear “I don’t know why I do TaKeTiNa, I just really like it…” Understanding that we are fed by being in a medium that our minds and bodies seek out for unconscious reasons, provides another explanation why this is such a common remark.

I love knowing that the TaKeTiNa process can give my community access to the musical medium without training or practice. I want to share the medium and change others stories like my own changed when I found the pumpkin. I hope you can make it this weekend as we play with the musical medium, laugh together as we make mistakes, grow in ourselves and relax in the meditation of pulse.

I hope you can make it as we continue to explore the three types of space from our last journey and the medium of rhythm and music.

Peace,
Jacob
