Gimme a Break

Hello Friends Old and New,

Since our last journey I have kept going back to the invitation to “Take a break.” Robert invited us to go through the journey as a break from the hustle of our daily lives. I loved it and couldn’t let it stop there. More words were needed. Here they are:

What does it mean to take a break? How do I know if I need a break? What is required to be a break? These were my first thoughts. Then I went back to the original invitation “Take a break from the hustle…” Wow. There so many more options to be explored and enjoyed.

Taking a break to look at all the cool.

Take a break from:

  • a project that you are working on
  • an emotionally charged situation
  • having to be right all the time
  • adulting
  • feeling like you have to do it all yourself
  • stress and business
  • ignoring fears
  • staying home instead of going out

This was all interesting, but it felt like I was missing something by only using the word “from” as my prompt. So I changed it.

Take a break to:

  • allow space and breath into your life
  • gain a new perspective by detaching from another
  • rejuvenate inspiration, motivation and creativity
  • be out of your comfort zone
  • be in your comfort zone
  • try something new
  • play with rhythm and community
  • laugh, cry, emote or just be

There are great from’s and to’s for each of us. What matters is that when we take a break we know 1) that we are making this choice, and 2) what we are choosing/hoping to get out of it.

TaKeTiNa provides a break through rhythm. By building the rhythm up over time, our brains and bodies slowly let go of the outside world and enter the present moment.  We play, step, clap and sing into this break and take some time at the end to be.

Peace,
Jacob Stein

I love this post, Jake. It puts me in mind of something else someone suggested to me recently–that I should toss out all my To Do lists for awhile and start making some Not To Do ones instead!

That is brilliant! I may use that in the future.

Great thoughts, thank you Jacob. I mistakenly scheduled a break with my massage therapist conflicting with Saturday TaKeTiNa! I am with you in spirit and will sing (in my head…not sure of spelling “audiate”) through my massage.
